Green Bay Mayor Joins Chabad for Menorah Lighting

On the third night of Chanukah, December 23, the Jewish community of Green Bay, Wisconsin gathered to illuminate the winter night with the light of the Menorah. Joined by Mayor Jim Schmitt, Chabad of the Bay Area hosted its Annual Chanukah Menorah Lighting Celebration.

Opening remarks were made by Rabbi Michoel Feinstein, Co-Director of Chabad of the Bay Area, who related the story of Chanukah and how it is still relevant today. As explained by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, even a single ray of light can defeat an overwhelming darkness as long as belief in the Almighty is never lost and dedication to an ultimate goodness is constant.

After subsequent remarks from the Mayor, the entire congregation joined to light the Menorah in song and dancing.

Refreshments, including traditional potato pancakes and jelly-filled doughnuts, were then served.

The Chanukah Menorah Lighting Celebration in Green Bay joins a national and worldwide tradition of public Chanukah Menorah displays and candle lighting ceremonies, which have become commonplace: from Lafayette Park across from the White House, to the grand menorah in front of the Kremlin, to one at the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
