Mendel Markel Releases New Chanukah Dance Album “Octoluminosity,” Featuring Dovid Taub
Mendel Markel has released a new Chanukah dance album titled “Octoluminosity”, including a 24 minute dance medley, bringing a fresh and modern sound to classic holiday music. The project features collaborations with Dovid Taub, creator of the popular Itche Kadoozy Show, who appears on two newly reimagined tracks: “Jono’s Dreidel Song” and “Judah Maccabee: Space Marine (Chanukah 3622).” Taub also contributes and sings on an original new piece, “The Most Misunderstood Holiday.”
Octoluminosity blends traditional Jewish melodies with electronic dance, electro-pop, and progressive house influences. The album includes high-energy new arrangements of Haneiros Halalu, Maoz Tzur, Oy Chanukah, and other familiar favorites, all redone in Markel’s signature EDM fusion style with symphonic elements woven throughout.
The album also includes a driving short instrumental dance track from emerging artist Mozi Shur, adding an extra layer of energy to the collection. Other highlights include:
– An English pop-rock version of “Maoz Tzur” with lyrics by Jewish poet, Ian Heiss.
– An Irish Folk/EDM fusion song using lyrics by Emma Lazarus, the American Jewish poet whose words appear on the Statue of Liberty.
– A 24-minute nonstop dance medley, created especially for parades, parties, school events, and mitzvah tanks.
– Chabad Nigunim Haneiros Halalu and Yevanim (Nikolayev).
– A redone Moishe Oysher Chanukah number with a modern twist.
With its mix of nostalgia, creativity, and modern production, Octoluminosity offers a unique and uplifting musical experience for Chanukah celebrations of all kinds. The album is available now on all major streaming platforms (medley may not be available on al platforms), including:
