Toveedo App Gets Hacked By Jihadist Group Over Shabbos, Sends Anti-Israel Message to Users

by CrownHeights.info

Users of the popular children’s app Toveedo turned on their phone Motzei Shabbos to messages from the MUTTARif hacking group, pushing anti-Israel messages about the ongoing offensive in Gaza.

“We are writing regarding an incident that caused unauthorized push notifications to a small group of users via a 3rd party provider,” the Toveedo Team wrote in an email to users. “We immediately blocked this activity and manually blocked the service form sending additional notifications.”

Toveedo also noted that no subscriber information, nor payment data had been compromised in the hack.

The MUTTARif hacking group made a name for itself primarily in the Middle East and Gulf States by hacking low level media outlets, such as twitter accounts and billboards to push Islamic and Jihadist propaganda.

Ironically, “MUTTARif” refers to Mutarrif bin Abdullah, a historical figure known for maintaining religious balance and avoiding the political and religious turmoil of his era.
