Iowa Shlucha Receives Life-Saving Kidney from Altruistic Donor in New Square
A Shlucha from Iowa is receiving a new lease on life today, thanks to the extraordinary kindness of an altruistic kidney donor — a young mother of four from the New Square community.
The donor was inspired by her husband, who had previously donated a kidney through the nonprofit organization Renewal. After witnessing the life-changing impact of his donation, she felt compelled to follow in his footsteps. Her decision marks a rare and moving milestone — a husband and wife who have both chosen to give the ultimate gift: the gift of life.
Facilitated by Renewal, this act of pure chesed has brought together two families who, under ordinary circumstances, would likely never have crossed paths. Now, through this selfless mitzvah, they are forever connected.
The donor’s surgery took place at Hackensack University Medical Center, and the kidney was flown to Iowa for transplant. In a powerful gesture of support, Rabbi Moshe Gwirtz of Renewal traveled to Iowa before the surgery to be with the recipient and her family, offering guidance, reassurance, and care during this life-changing moment.
Please keep both women in your tefillos for a complete and speedy recovery:
Chaya Miriam bas Rachel Leah (the recipient)
Trani bas Rochel (the donor)
Thanks to this incredible act of giving, the Iowa Shlucha can look forward to many more healthy and joy-filled years with her husband and children, kein ayin hara.
This moving story is yet another testament to the lifesaving mission of Renewal, which continues to transform lives and build bridges of compassion through live kidney donation within the Jewish community.
