Rabbi Pinchus Ciment — Lubavitch of Arkansas’ Regional Director and the state’s longest-serving rabbi — opened the U.S. House of Representatives this morning with a prayer.
He began with an act of tzedakah — placing money in a charity box — before invoking the Seven Noahide Laws that G-d gave all of humanity after the Great Flood. “Almighty G-d, bless the members of this august body, the United States House of Representatives, who convene to fulfill your very guidance to establish just laws,” he said.
In the merit of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who described America as a “Nation of Kindness,” Ciment said, “Please grant that the vision of our nation for a world imbued with peace and tranquility be the crowning achievement of this mighty and awesome chamber.”
