Today: Mitteler Rebbe’s Yom Hageulah

Today, the 10h of Kislev, marks the day of liberation of the Mitteler Rebbe, Rabbi Dovber of Lubavitch, who was imprisoned by the Czar after he was slandered by the opponents of Chassidism.

In 1826, Rabbi DovBer of Lubavitch was arrested on charges that his teachings threatened the imperial authority of the Czar, but was subsequently exonerated.

The date of his release, the 10th of Kislev, is celebrated amongst Chabad Chassidim as a “festival of liberation.”

Tachnun is omitted from the day’s prayers, farbrengens are held, and Rabbi DovBer’s teachings are studied.
