New Haven Yeshiva Learns Proper Tefilin Care
In honor of Chodesh Elul, the Shluchim of New Haven Yeshiva arranged for veteran Sofer Rabbi Rachamim Ladaev to visit the Yeshiva, along with his staff, to check all the bochurim’s Tefilin and give them tips on how to maintain and give proper care to their Tefilin.
The following are several of the tips he gave:
- Make sure on the arm Tefilin that the yud is sticking out at least 10mm.
- Make sure to paint your straps every so often so they stay black, especially near the knot areas (head and arm).
- Make sure the width of your straps is at least 10mm wide (there is no need to pull your Tefillin too tight.
- Make sure to dry your head after going to the Mikvah so your Tefillin don’t bend out of shape.
- Be careful when you put each Tefilin in to its box so it doesn’t damage the corners.
- Try to keep your Tefilin out of areas that are too cool or too hot for long periods of time.
