JEM Debuts New Series for Torah Scholars

A new series from JEM debuted recently at the Lapidus-Aizenman wedding in Buenos Aires, showcasing the Rebbe’s Torah scholarship.

The release – a DVD video and companion follow-along guide – features the Rebbe delivering a complex Siyum (Torah dissertation) marking the conclusion of Tractate Chagiga of Talmud. Over the course of three talks, the Rebbe then delivers an incisive “l’shitasei,” explaining how the many celebrated arguments between Beis Shamai and Beis Hillel in fact stem from one fundamental disagreement. In a breathtaking tour-de-force, the Rebbe presents one example from each Order of the Talmud to illustrate how this fundamental difference of perspective fuels all of the halachic disputes between the two famed sages and their disciples.

The special guide aids the viewer to follow the Rebbe’s exposition by providing the structure of the Rebbe’s talk. As well, the text   of the major sources cited by the Rebbe is included, providing a visual text-based resource to complement the audio-visual experience.

Rabbi Chaim Lapidus of Buenos Aires and his family have long been long-time supporters of releases of the Rebbe’s teachings in print and on video.

According to Rabbi Elkanah Shmotkin, JEM’s director, this new series fulfills one of the organization long-held ambitions: namely, production  for the benefit of the “Torah audience.”

“As the leader of Klal Yisrael, the Rebbe must be accessible to each audience in their own language,” said Rabbi Shmotkin. “We believe this new video series will bring the thrill of learning directly from the Rebbe to a crowd that may have, in the past, been less exposed to this amazing experience.”
