New Book to Explore Chabad’s Early Years in America

Just in time for Gimmel Tammuz, Nissan Mindel Publications is pleased to introduce the soon-to be-published book, Chabadin America through the Folders of Nissan MIndel, which will detail the origins of Chabad in America through the archives of Rabbi Dr. Nissan Mindel, a trusted secretary of the Previous Rebbe after his arrival in the U.S., and later of the Rebbe.

This much anticipated book contains material from Rabbi Nissan Mindel’s personal folders and reflects much of the history of Chabad in America from the time of the Frierdiker Rebe‘s arrival in 1940 and for the next several decades.

The unique scope of this new book affords the reader a glimpse into the activities of the Chabad Rabbeim in America and the many personalities and events they inspired and shaped, through the collection of a variety of material which Rabbi Mindel collected, accurately recorded, documented and preserved during the  decades of his service to the Rabbeim.

Rabbi Mindel merited to serve the Rabbeim as  personal secretary responsible for their correspondence, personal emissary on various missions and prolific author of chasidic literature for young and old. His professional and personal relationship with the Rabbeim gave him a unique view into the three pillars of Chabad – Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch, Machaneh Yisroel and Aguch of which he was a member.

“We are working on the first of two volumes of folders, soon to be published, in the hope of creating a deeper appreciation of and a commitment to the works and teachings of our revered Rabbeim in their efforts to ‘perfect the world under the sovereignty of the A-mighty’ and to ultimately and speedily bring Moshiach now,” said Rabbi Shalom Ber Schapiro, son-in-law of Rabbi Mindel and director of Nissan Mindel Publications.

“On a final note” continues Rabbi Sachpiro, “we are pleased to mention another book which we published a couple of years ago and which has been very well received, the ‘From Day to Day’. This groundbreaking book, a jr. Hayom Yom,  the Rebbe himself prepared in 5743 and 5744 specifically for the young scholar. The Rebbe worked on the From Day to Day together with Rabbi Mindel, who rendered it to English, and completed it even before the Hayom Yom for the general public.  Rabbi Mindel customarily worked on projects with the Rebbe in the early years and the From Day to Day was one such project.”
