Russian Jews Commemorate 70th Anniversary of WWII Victory

On Friday, the eve of May 9th, 70 years after the Soviet Union defeated Nazi Germany in World War II, the Jewish community of Moscow, Russia, gathered in the Red Square to celebrate ‘Victory Day.’

A prayer of ‘El Malei Rachamim’ was recited by Rabbi Berel Lazar, Chief Rabbi of Russia, in memory of the millions of Jews who perished at the hands of the Nazis, YMS.

Many of the attendees at the rally, which took place mere yards away from the Kremlin’s walls, were decorated veterans of the Red Army, who fought the Nazis heroically during the war.

A few days prior to the event, a group of over 550 Jewish youth from across Russia traveled to the Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz, Poland, for a visit to remember those who perished, and to inspire the Jewish youth to defeat the Nazis by keeping the Jewish nation alive.
