Uncovering Female Talent – One Concert at a Time

Originality, authenticity and soulfulness characterized the ‘Silent Prayer’ concert at the recent Australian N’shei uBnos Convention. A cast of home grown talent wowed the capacity crowd at Chabad of the North Shore’s Jewish Community Centre in Sydney.

The concert’s performers were mainly local Sydney musicians who had not featured in the original album. Under the direction of producer Sharon Sinclair; each musician brought her own unique voice, instruments and style to the stage, offering a personalised interpretation that imbued the performances with a powerful immediacy. Ranging from classic to jazz, from soul to pop, the performances were passionate and uplifting. “Women joined hands and danced. It was a wonderful and empowering celebration“ reflected Elka Feldman, the convention’s executive director.

The crowd was visibly moved by the authenticity of Rivka Leah‘s songs, whose themes are strongly influenced by Chassidic teachings as well as biblical and real life heroines. Some audience members expressed that the music touched their heart more powerfully than any inspirational talk.

This was the third major concert this year to feature Rivka Leah’s album. However, it was the first to actualize Rivka Leah’s vision to create a platform for local female musical talent in Jewish communities across the world. ”Our communities possess a wealth of untapped female musical talent’ says Rivka Leah “Without a stage for expression and opportunities for musical sharing, rarely do we get to appreciate the treasures that are right there in our own neighborhoods.”

Rivka Leah hopes that her album’s professional musical arrangements and meaningful content will enable more women to join together to produce their own quality concerts featuring the home grown talent that abounds in Jewish communities everywhere.

The Silent Prayer album is available at mostlymusic.com, i-tunes and Amazon and in local Judaica stores.
