Students Gather in Miami for Torah Retreat
The 5th annual Miami Torah Experience, directed by Rabbi Immanuel Storfer, took place in North Miami Beach, Florida from Dec. 25 to Jan. 2, with over twenty five participants from various Universities in North and South America.
Students were awarded tuition scholarships and travel stipends thanks to a grant from The Chabad on Campus Yeshiva Initiative fund, sponsored by the Rohr family in loving memory of R’ Shmuel (Sami) ben Yehoshua Eliyahu Rohr, OBM.
The program offered a hands on opportunity to explore classical texts chavrusa style in Chassidus, Talmud and Chumash, which was the first opportunity for many of the participants to explore the depth of Judaism.
Students were treated to wonderful classes from noted scholars, such as Rabbis Manis Friedman, Yisroel Geisinsky, Avraham Korf, Sholom Ber Lipskar, Yosef Marlow, Leibel Schapiro, Eli Silberstein, and Pinchas Taylor. They also had plenty of time to participate in fun and exciting recreational activities, such as kayaking, jet skiing, beach volleyball, bowling, speed boating and ‘everglading’ in the Florida alligator swamps.
All of the participants left the program on a high and full of enthusiasm, and many have vowed to return to spend full time in yeshiva at a later time in their lives after being exposed to such interesting ideas and concepts. The program has proven to be an initial stepping stone for many students, who want to get a taste of yeshiva life but are not ready to commit to an all day intensive program.
The Miami Torah Experience is a project of Chabad-Lubavitch of Florida, and is subsidized by the Chabad on Campus International Foundation.
