8th Day Rocks Toronto

“This is by far the best Jewish concert I have ever attended,” was the overheard consensus from the crowd who packed the hall of Chabad of Markham, Ontario on Sunday to hear 8th Day perform live.

Close to 300 people crowded into the Chabad House to sing, dance and and have fun at this Chanukah family event.

The event opened with Markham’s homegrown band, the “Skullcaps,” who warmed up the crowd with familiar and original tunes. The group, led by lead singer Rabbi Yossi Berktin and lead guitarist Michael Sher, had recently debuted at Chabad, performing a weekly Havdala service, and have been very well received.

After a whirlwind European and Canadian tour, 8th Day took to the stage in Markham and got the crowd to their feet! The set included songs from their past albums, as well as a special debut from their upcoming new album, “Hooleh!”

Eighth Day’s unique blend of alternative rock and modern hip hop music stirred the very soul of all who attended. Their uncanny ability to deliver powerful messages of Torah and Chasidus through a thoroughly modern genre  of music is absolutely unique, even among the greatest Jewish singers of the day.

The crowd burst out with spontaneous dancing and singing during the great finale, featuring their signature song, “Yalili”!
