R’ Eli Hecht To Be Released to House Arrest

Shturem.org

More than four months have passed since the arrest of R’ Eli Hecht in Spain, after being duped into carrying a drug-laden suitcase for a ruthless individual. The committee members worked tirelessly with lawyers to get him released to house arrest before Pesach.

After being rejected time after time, and despite all odds, the request was approved, and Eli will be released to the custody of the local Shliach in Barcelona, Rabbi Dovid Leibersohn, or to Madrid, until his day in court.

R’ Eli can receive mail at zeev@crombie.com or via fax: 04-6923135

To donate to R’ Eli’s family and help with the legal costs: www.ebz.org.il

Anash are requested to continue davening for Eliyahu Rachamim ben Rochel for true liberation.

I think it’s time that we name the people that gave him the case and in the case of the boy’s in Japan and any other such case
the names must be publicized as a warning to others

Was he doing a favor for a stranger, or someone he knew? When will people learn not to trust anyone? May R’Hecht and the boys in Japan be released before Pesach 5771. It’s the season of our freedom.

  • Doubtful

why would anyone transport things on a plane for someone else? seriously?

  • to doubtful

A more pertinent question would why would someone- a father of many children, take the risk of years and years of imprisonment for $? Yes, people do crazy things for money, but people are more likely to be naive than just plain old stupid

and besides, havent you ever heard of dan lekaf zechus?!
    Innocent until proven guilty?

These stories have only become well known in recent years and as more and more people publicize them hopefully people will become more educated NOT to take things on planes for people without at least thoroughly inspecting them.

    May he be freed soon!!

  • Stop judging him

It is strange that someone who naively does a favor for someone without expecting to be stabbed in the back for it, is considered suspect by commenters #5 and #6. I feel sorry for the above commenters. I can only assume that a big heart and a trusting spirit are so foreign to them that instead of considering him a good person who was misled they must suspect him either of being the criminal or of having ulterior motives. I am so happy about his release and wish him well.

Name the guy who gave him the case. He is a rodef, plain and simple, and is a sakana to anyone else in the kehillah. Same deal for the guy who set up the boys in Japan.

  • Ex-Lubavitch

I am starting to get very suspicious. We do know who set up the boys in Japan – a guy from their own community named Miller who is in jail now.

But no one has said a word about the supposed gvir who set up Hecht….it happened in Costa Rica…where is Spalter? Either he doesn’t want to lose a donor or this is no innocent man.
