Lag Ba’Omer Parade in Albany

ALBANY , NY [CHI] — The Parade theme is the Mishna in Eilu-Dvarim, each class did a theme (on hats, banners, signs..) of honoring parents, bringing peace between people, visiting the sick, welcoming guests, helping brides… led by a giant Torah float and the Maimonides Albany Mesivta Marching Band, who trained just for this occasion. The drummers had a lively beat, interspersed with a rendition of Napoleon’s March led by their drumming teacher Mr. Jeff Belding.

The Parade Grand Marshall was Bernie Sonenberg, a Maimonides alumnus who recently graduated from the Watson School at Binghamton University where he was active at Chabad. Rabbi Yisroel Rubin organized the whole effort, building momentum at school days before, getting the float built by the school’s construction contractor Yefim Baskin, and coordinated the police escort. Masha Vilnechuk coordinated the artwork of the banners, hat logos and the float. Dini Gordon’s class made the giant Chassan and Kallah.

Marchers were greeted by storekeepers, residents, colleges and organizations along the parade route, and made a special stop at the Bnai Brith apartments where they gave residents Challah, said the 12 Pesukim led by Rabbi Hecht of Kingston NY – as Rabbi JJ Hecht would do by the Rebbe – and at a mid-parade lunch.

The parade culimiated with a lively Yoel Sharabi and Aharon Frank concert in the West Park at the NYS Capitol. www.maimonidesschool.org

  • what about CH

It’s a busha that all around teh world there were parades and fairs and here in Crown Heights there was non of that.
It is true that the rally was beautiful, but it does not replace the Jewish pride for the children of marching in the streets or the fun of a street fair afterwards. I think that Tzivos Hashem in CH needs to get their act together a bit more. This is not said without appreciating the work that they do indeed accomplish.
