Gan Israel Parksville Staff Pre-summer Meeting
Counselors, learning teachers and general staff members, who will be working at Camp Gan Israel in Parksville, NY, met Sunday afternoon for a pre-summer meeting and orientation ahead of the upcoming summer season.
The meeting began with Lunch and followed by a lecture by Rabbi Yossi Jacobson, who explained just how important the summer months are for a camper. “What you say to a camper will remain with him for the rest of his life,” he said, stressing the importance of positive reinforcement.
Also speaking to the staff was Dr. Yehuda Mandel LMSW, a Brooklyn based social worker who works on the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services, who spoke with the staff about child abuse and molestation.
Following the experts, staff heard from the head counselors and learning directors.
Tomorrow, another meeting will be held with the staff on the camp grounds in Catskill Mountains the day before camp begins. The staff will be hearing from Rabbi Zalman Leib Markowitz, an expert in the field of Chinuch.

Can you share what was discussed about child abuse? The camps should make their policies public – so parents and children are aware.
