If you thought you had seen it all, stories like this are there to remind you that your wrong.
A crazed tow truck driver attempting to tow an SUV in Crown Heights around 6:00am Shabbos morning went wild, damaging sixteen cars and leaving a wake of destruction behind. With preliminary reports and video footage provided by Crown Heights Shomrim, we can piece together parts of how this crazy story unfolded.
The first video (below) shows as the tow truck driver, who may or may not have been attempting to steal cars, pulls up to the intersection of Rutland Road and Brooklyn Ave, getting behind a white SUV and lifting it by its rear wheels.
The tow truck, with its prize, then begins driving down Rutland Road while being followed by another SUV which had possibly been involved in a prior incident involving the same tow truck.
Between the blocks of Rutland and Brooklyn and Rutland and Troy, the SUV following the tow truck swung around the block, getting in front of the tow truck and attempting to block it in by turning the wrong way down Rutland at the Troy intersection. The tow truck driver wasn’t having it.
The crazed tow, realizing what was taking place, sped up on his way down Rutland, striking multiple cars and causing the front wheels of the towed vehicle to shift.
Speeding up, the tow truck driver attempted to evade the blocking SUV through speed, leaving a trail of damaged and destroyed vehicles lining the street and ultimately trying to bash his way past the blocking vehicle. It worked……partially.
Sixteen unhappy car owners, three of them Jewish, were left to assess the damage over shabbos and file police reports.
At present, no reports indicate if the NYPD has made an arrest in this case.
