Young Woman Injured After Collision with a Truck

A young Lubavitcher woman was injured after she crashed into an illegally parked tractor-trailer on Empire Boulevard this morning. Hatzalah rushed her to the hospital.

The incident occurred at around 9:30am, according to an eye witness the young woman was attempting to pass a FedEx delivery truck, which was stopping to make a delivery. As she completed passing it, she collided with the parked tractor-trailer, apparently not expecting it to be there.

Hatzalah was called and treated the driver for injuries and transported her to a local hospital.

The truck, which was unloading an entire trailer, was parked the wrong way on Empire, completely blocking the bike lane as well as a portion of the traffic lane.

A neighbor told our photographer that “this is common over here, the sidewalk and street are treated like a part of the warehouse” adding that only miracles have prevented incident from happening until now.

  • Not the place for a warehouse

As someone who has driven by I concur with the statement:
“this is common over here, the sidewalk and street are treated like a part of the warehouse”

I would be happy if they would move their warehouse somewhere else, preferably a location with a big lot to accommodate these HUGE trucks. Not on a mostly residential block.

  • terrible

The absolute arrogance of the owner of that business is astounding. He often blocks Empire Blvd and pays no heed to the safety of the many people driving and walking in the vicinity. He is responsible for this accident. This is on him.

  • the fault is with 71st precinct

They are next door but turn a blind eye due to bribery.

Are you going to start providing diapers and other dry goods for the cops (as well as funds for other local politicians)?
Otherwise, let the police continue ignoring..

Of course they close a blind eye.

They pull their cars up and Spritzer fills them with goods.

It’s a Chutzpa that parking for the residents were taken away to accommodate the trucks and still those parking spaces are not used by the trucks but instead as a loading dock for boxes.

Several years ago the Jewish neighbor (to 455) wanted to put a driveway in front of his house and Spritzer did everything he can to make sure that does not happen.

I also wonder how Spritzer is allowed to operate a warehouse at that location when the Certificates of Occupancy only allows for a parking lot.

And that being said, how did Spritzer get ‘NO PARKING EXCEPT FOR TRUCKS’ signs from the DOT, when he doesn’t even have a Certificates of Occupancy?

  • A NEIGHBOR

Sometimes there will be double parked trucks and trucks parked on the island at the same time.

If any other citizen tried do pull something like that off, they would be ticketed instantly. Yet, at 455 anything goes.

  • ridiculous

Stupid comments, While i feel terrible for the driver,
SHE DROVE INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. Stop the blame someone else game.

    • Milhouse

Yes, a vehicle that had no right to be parked there, and whose existence she had no reason to suspect.

  • to ridiculous

You are either ridiculous, blind or a party in the affair. READ! It says there was anther truck so she swerved around the first truck not expecting empire Ave to be a parking lot! Not everyone just assumes that Empire Ave is Spritzer’s private parking lot, as some people actually think it’s a road for moving traffic. You are probably Spritzer just excusing your inexcusable behavior.

  • crazy place

i walk their every day and yes spritzer has real nerve blocking a whole block/i cant even get my carriage through

“according to an eye witness the young woman was attempting to pass a FedEx delivery truck, which was stopping to make a delivery. As she completed passing it, she collided with the parked tractor-trailer, apparently not expecting it to be there.” Another way of looking at this is: It’s most fortunate that it was a parked tractor trailer rather than a mother with a baby in a stroller that she was “apparently not expecting” to be there. Even if others park illegally it does not remove our responsibility to drive defensively and safely. I hope she makes a speedy recovery.

That location is a heavily-populated area and that warehouse has no right to endanger pedestrians and drivers with his business.

Huge tractor-trailers are a menace to the safety of both pedestrians and passenger cars and should NOT be permitted to park or block the area.

Was the lady on her cell phone when she slammed into the truck? It seems that she wasn’t really paying attention to the conditions around her. People in those fancy-shmancy Acura and Lexus cars tend to think they own the road and can do whatever they like (like recklessly passing slower-moving vehicles) while others watch out for THEM. In Brooklyn, there is a hazard waiting for you at every street corner! You have to be fully alert when negotiating the dangerous byways in this overcrowded and traffic-congested borough.
