Elderly Man Injured by Hit and Run Bicyclist
CROWN HEIGHTS — An older man was hurt after a cyclist crashed into him while he was crossing in a crosswalk. After hanging around for a minute or two the cyclist pedaled off.
The incident occurred on Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue at around 1:00pm. The man was described as being elderly and is frequently seen collecting money on the steps of 770.
Hatzalah treated the victim for bruising and pain then transported him to Methodist Hospital for further treatment.
A Shomrim volunteer, who happened to be passing by, was flagged down by a witness and informed of the cyclist fleeing. He attempted to locate him but the no avail.
Police sources said that there are no criminal consequences for fleeing the scene of an accident when it is a bicycle and a pedestrian, unlike motor vehicles where leaving the scene of an accident is a crime.
