Cyclist Struck in a Hit and Run on Kingston Ave

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Today, Sunday at around 2:30pm, a 13 year old Bochur was struck by a car while riding his bike on Kingston Avenue and Carroll Street, moments later the offending vehicle fled the scene.

More pictures in the Extended Article.

Hatzalah, Police and Shomrim were called and responded within moments and began treating the victim, while Shomrim members collected information from the crowd such as what type of vehicle it was, and more then six different witnesses came forward with the license plate number of the fleeing vehicle.

A member of Hatzalah said that the Bochur is extremely lucky, had been any closer to the center of the car he would have been in a much more serious condition. He was treated on scene then transported to his house.

So, um, no biking shouldn’t be allowed in cities with sidewalks, streets, and cars? I suppose walking would be just as hazardous under those harsh circumstances.
Heck, driving is probably even worse. Let’s just stay at home and hope we don’t choke.

  • no solutions

‘zalman’ is right: life has to go on you cant put yourself in a bubble the only way these problems will be fixed is if we get SECURITY

  • helmet mom

    wear helmets!
hey parents, dont let your kids use their bikes without one…IT SAVES LIVES!

  • a bissel brains

uh, helmets, people! wear protective gear and reflective clothing. Be cautious. lights on bikes at night. and horns to alert those around you!!

  • Step off your bikes when crossing the st

I saw what happened , terrible . Moshiach now . We shouldn’t know of such things. Kids should just be careful and must step off there bikes when riding the street.

  • Stop Harrasing the Victims!

There seems to be a trend on this website. Commenters are very quick to blame the victim in so many cases. There is a time and place for everything. When someone is suffering after an accident or an attack is not the time start lecturing.

Oh, of course not. Let’s keep giving Hospital’s lots of business dealing with heart attacks because of our obese cholent guzzler society. We need to give kids (and adults!) a way to exercise. We just need to instill an understanding of safety, so that they wear helmets and safety equipment at all times.

This is not suburbia America. Parents – all bikes should be put away — Crown Heights is made for “careful Step by Step walking”. The situation is too volatile for wild bicycling.

  • Lucky mom

Helmets save lives………bottom line is we need exercise and we are not taking bikes away from our kids, so let’s at least teach them safety!

My son was hit by a hummer last year and walked away with monor injuries B”H. He was wearing a helmet properly!

  • nobody like responsibility

    to victims,
isn’t it the democratic way, if you are a victim it must mean you did something to deserve it? think of the liberal ideology concerning terrorism, inner-city violence etc.

Our kids have never had bikes in the city — only in the country. No rollerblades, either. Have they complained over the years? You bet! But they can swim, use the gym, and go to the park that has supervision. Bikes in the city are dangerous and are a magnet for thieves. May Hashem keep us all safe.
