by CrownHeights.info

When you think of yarmulka-wearing police officers of the NYPD, there aren’t that many that come to mind. One of the most famous though, without a doubt, is Lieutenant Ira Jablonsky.

After a short hiatus outside of the force, Ira has been reassigned to uniform and will be taking up a post as Lieutenant Special Assignment at Police Borough Brooklyn South, serving under Chief Frank Giordano.

“Shomrim is excited to welcome back Special Lieutenant Ira Jablonsky as Special Assignment Lieutenant in @NYPDBrooklynSouth,” Crown Heights Shomrim said in a statement. “You were missed and we are glad to have you back making Brooklyn South a better and safer place for all!”

Jablonsky’s more than 20-year career in the NYPD has been highlighted by an unprecedented commitment to the communities he has served. Working alongside the Shomrim patrols throughout New York City, his efforts have created close friendships within the Jewish community.

A husband and father of five, Ira received Congressional Recognition in 2023 in honor of Jewish American Heritage month. The recognition cited his hard work and dedication to the members of Brooklyn South.
