Sifrei Torah Begun In Emotional Kosel Ceremony

In an emotional and uplifting ceremony at the Western Wall, with the participation of dozens of families of captives, bereaved families, and displaced families from the south and north, two Torah scrolls were dedicated tonight to the Western Wall, and the writing of dozens of Torah scrolls began, which will be placed in the synagogues in the Gaza Envelope communities and on IDF bases.

This evening, a moving event took place at the Western Wall, marking the dedication and writing of Torah scrolls. The Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi David Lau, the Rabbi of the Western Wall and Holy Sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, Rabbi Shmuel Harman, and the director of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, Mr. Mordechai (Suli) Eliav, attended the event, along with the families of captives, bereaved families, and families evacuated from the south and north of Israel.

The ceremony began with the writing of letters on dozens of Torah scroll parchments spread out in the Western Wall Plaza. Many of the Jewish nation and family members of the captives, bereaved and evacuees, participated in writing the letters together with scribes, dedicating the writing to the well-being and success of the people of Israel, for the elevation of the souls of the fallen, for the well-being of the soldiers, and for the swift return of the captives.

Upon completion of their writing over the coming year, the Torah scrolls will be placed in synagogues in various communities of the captives’ families in the Gaza Envelope, in northern settlements, and on IDF bases. The first Torah scroll will be dedicated tomorrow, Wednesday, the 9th of Kislev, 22/11/23, in Kibbutz Kerem Shalom.
