Fire Breaks Out In Basement of Lefferts Shul, No Injuries Reported

Update: The cause of the fire has been identified as an electrical source with extensive damage making the Mikvah unusable until repairs have been completed. There is also some smoke damage to the shul itself.
A fire broke out in the basement of Lefferts Shul in Crown Heights Sunday, spreading the smell of the fire throughout the block and triggering a large FDNY response.
Multiple fire trucks responded to the fire and quickly reported an “all hands” with the fire contained to the basement where the Mikvah is located.
At present, the firefighters are allowing residents into the upstairs floors to retrieve their items, and the Sifrei Torahs were removed from the building.
No injuries have been reported in the fire.
