Lman Achai Leaves An Everlasting Impact As Summer Comes To A Close

Camp Lman Achai finished off the summer of 5782 with a bang that left positive everlasting impact on its campers.

Leading up to the nine days, the Junior division went go-karting, enjoyed batting cages, and miniature golf, before going off on a hike.

The Teen took a hike a few thousand feet above sea level and visited a watchtower at the peak of the mountain.

During the nine days, the camp started off with Carnival Day, with booths, ticket prizes, and an Ice Cream Party. Then the entire camp got to view a virtual reality tour of The Beis Hamikdash.

Then color war broke out, and it was fantastic. The camp was split between the junior and teen divisions, with the junior division’s team name Holy/kodesh, and the teen division named (ordinary)/chol. Throughout color war, the camp learned a lot about bringing holiness into their day to day routine, and the specialty of Shabbos.

Both teams had Torah to memorize by heart, which was worth a lot of points, and through the help of the dedicated staff, both teams had every member finish their quota.

At the end of the day, there was the Grand Plays. Team Chol did the winning play on the story of a chassid of the Rebbe Maharash that owned a liquor factory and his workers decided to tell on him and blame him for something they were doing. They had been stealing liquor and they accused him of not paying taxes for that, and so he had to go to court. He went to the Rebbe, the Rebbe told him to help out the first Jew he meets that asks for help. Throughout the play, you could see how this man takes the regular, mundane schedule of life and business, and infuses it with holiness.

The Junior division team play was on the story of Purim, highlighting the holiness of the Jewish nation.

Then came the annual trip to Six Flags.

In Six Flags, the campers showed tons of Jewish pride. The groups, with a couple of kids per staff member, took along a pair of tefillin, and to their luck, there was an easily identifiable non-frum Jewish camp that was there that day. The day almost became a contest amongst all the the staff and campers who could get the most pairs of tefillin, and throughout the day, dozens and dozens of Tefilin were being put on.

The staff from the other camp attempted to avoid the campers and staff of Lman Achai, but the campers were very interested and it was quite a novelty for them.

For lunch, the kids enjoyed fresh pizza from a local kosher pizzeria. All in all, was a great day!

The everlasting impact of this summer on the campers of Lman Achai can already be felt, with one camper already transferring out of public school and enrolling in Jewish day school.
