E-Bike Battery Explosion Sparks Fire Inside Sanitation Truck in Crown Heights

An explosion in a Sanitation truck picking up recycling on Sterling Street in Crown Heights created a scene Thursday after a discarded E-Bike Battery exploded and started a fire.
The fire department received a call for for a truck on fire around 9:40am on Sterling Street between New York Ave and Brooklyn Ave. The responding firefighters found the truck smoking from the rear compartment and began removing the garbage to find the source.
Ultimately a burning battery from an E-Bike was pulled from the pile and doused with water.
A series of fires from exploding E-Bike batteries has sparked investigations throughout New York City as the use of the bikes continues to climb.
