(UPDATED 10:06AM) In Early Hours of Voting Much of Crown Heights Finds No Booth For Them To Vote

by CrownHeights.info

Just hours after voting began in the Special election for the 43rd District, which covers Crown Heights, difficulties began at a Crown Heights voting location.

Local residents whose voting location is the public school on Empire Blvd near Schenectady Ave arrived to find that their address booth was not there, meaning that system would not let them vote.

On tight schedules and attempting to vote, many Jewish residents became frustrated as the election workers gave them the option to vote VIA affidavit, something people are loathed to do.

Local activist Rabbi Yaakov Behrman was contacted, and after being touch with an official from the board of election, has been told that an official is on their way to the school.

Update 9:15am: An election official is presently at the Empire Blvd voting location and is resolving the issue. A witness reported that voting coordinator Saidia McLaughlin was “very courteous and helpful and didn’t give up until she made it work. Very impressed how calm she remained in the face of yelling going on by others.”

Update 9:16am: Reports indicate that there have also been issues at the Crown Street voting location, which are also being resolved with the help of Rabbi Yaakov Behrman.

Update 10:06am: Rabbi Yaakov Behrman has published a video with an election official explaining the misunderstanding that led to this morning’s voting confusion.
