  If anything, assuming that Marty Markowitz really did pick Mendy to represent “a Chassid”, then it’s nice that out of all of the Chassidish communities in Brooklyn, Chabad was the one that was “honored.”

  If not, well, it’s just harmless fun, and Mendy was just out there having a good time.

  We’ve got bigger problems to worry about than this.

  As for the song, I actually think there is a kosher Hebrew version out there recorded by one of the frum “muzika mizrahit” singers in Israel. I believe the original version is an Algerian “rai” song.

  It is quite obvious that this whole episode was done in jest. For all the people who think that they or their children should not be watching these things, then that’s exactly what you should do. Just because it says “Chabad” in the name doesnt mean that it is for you. There are plenty of shluchim who do things that you would not want your family to be a part of, but that doesnt mean they cant do it. It is geared for a different crowd, and Mendy may be geared for a different crowd as well. I know that he does use his talents for good; he has done wonderful things with children in the past.
  It does no good to sit on the side and criticize; be part of the solution instead. You may feel better about yourselves afterwards.

• Just some suggestions well intentioned..

  In the beginning days of Mendy’s Chabadtube you could see he was really going to take off successfully! I enjoyed his very subtle inside jokes about Chabad. They were very good natured and not mean. The silly sections of his news reports started getting too long, dragged out and not funny any more. But I thought with experience and a good editor this young man would be inventing a whole new avenue of shluchis and happiness.

  I even think his daily reports are a great idea. I look forward, Mendy, to you getting back to reporting Chabad news, locally and internationally. I would love some interviews with shluchim and the people they are affecting.

  You were on the right track before and I hope you get back to it. I know people who would love to advertise on your daily videos but not on what you have been putting out lately. Get back to the class act and you will sour with success.

  You know what bothered me the most, and I really couldn’t stand it, I think it should never happen again, is the green background.

  Why couldn’t there have been a nice sky view or city view, or even some cool animations going on behind him, just a green screen??!! At least put changing colors or the changing of the guards or something… (like when I was in camp, I loved watching it, in fact I was kicked out of the camp trip and had to watch it the whole day… that was fun).

  Anyway, looking forward to the next episode, where I’m sure it will be much more colorful and dynamic.

  Oh the rest of the show was so cool!

Since when do we even think of entertainers, even those who are less controversial and therefore more “haimish” as anything but people who provide us with enjoyable entertainment? Mendy went up on stage and it was so obvious his act was a parody of the whole idea of a model on the catwalk.

  Next year, let Marty Markowitz hold this on Purim so Mendy can really deliver a great performance, free from all the critics who mean well, but who take this far too seriously!

  as per my impression: there is absolutely NOTHING funny or original about this “weekly wink”-very tasteless humor, if you will(aside for all the justified blablablas about immodesty and inappropriateness that many have already posted) If I wanted to waste my time seeing someone do the catwalk, I could at any time through other means (as I prefer to see the y“h dressed as who he is rather than as a chassid)…if some actual THOUGHT and originality went into the modeling (in which participating, we wont get in to) something more appropriate and yes-actually funny could have resulted (funny for us intelligent viewers-not only for those present at the show) If youve got the talent, which you do, use it! Dont be lazy and waste it-or at least, dont display your lack of application to all of us viewers who do find you funny and enjoy your humor when its at its best.   There is a thin line between being funny and being tasteless, and maybe that’s why most of us shy away from expressing humor in the first place in the frum/chassidishe/chabad world, whether in print or on the web.

  Mendy is brave, irreverant and bold – and he’s unfortunately, crossed the line in this instance. It’s a chance he takes everytime he gets in front of that camera, and he will learn what goes down… and what will come right back at him.

  I think he will learn from his mistake, and not alienate his “fanbase” which are Lubavitchers and others everywhere.
