Benny Releases Song in Tribute to his Uncle

Rabbi Josh Gordon was a legendary Shliach who brought Torah lessons to thousands and was mekarev many more. He also inspired Benny Friedman to become a singer. In tribute to him he released the song Reb Yehoshua Omer, whose words are the way he lived his life.

by Benny Friedman

One of the measures of true greatness is a person’s ability to inspire others to reach for THEIR OWN greatness.

My uncle Rabbi Joshua Gordon, of blessed memory, was a great rabbi and a great teacher. And he inspired me to be a singer. Instead of encouraging me to be like him, he encouraged me to be like me. And he encouraged you to be like you. He wanted us to be the best and finest we could possibly be. He exhorted us To reach for greatness.

Mr. Daniel Aharonoff is yet another person deeply and richly inspired by Rabbi Gordon. Daniel has already brought Rabbi Gordon’s message to millions of people by being the catalyst and powerhouse behind Rabbi Gordon’s 1000’s of Torah classes on chabad.org. And now he’s reaching further.

Thanks to Daniels enthusiasm and BIG thinking – the hallmark of a disciple of Rabbi Gordon – we were able to produce this special tribute.

I present to you the music video of a song dedicated to my uncle Josh, with the words and the message that he lived by and encouraged others to live by. The keys to life: energetic work and tremendous faith and trust in Hashem.

Hustle Yossel, move a muscle!

May we all be an honor to his blessed memory. Lchaim!

Hustle, you’ve got to hustle, Yossel
Hustle Yossel, move a muscle!

  • safety is cool too

Why aren’t the kids wearing seatbelts in the car? What image are we trying to portray?

    • RCL

Keen eye. I watched it 3 times and didn’t notice. I must have been to busy enjoying a masterful piece of art. I guess I should watch it again on mute.

  • Got me movin’ all right!

  • Learning & feeding the needy on the Yartzeit

A song is nice, but it doesn’t come to what learning & feeding the hungry & needy on the day of the Yartzeit does, the best way for the niftar 2 have an Aliyahs HaNeshama on the day of the Yartzeit is by doing the above & Collel Chabad is an excellent org 2 donate 2, Benny it’s nice what your doing but let’s know what the main thing is ty

    • Missing the Point

I’m afraid you missed the entire point of what Benny wrote above. His Uncle told him that he should use his own talent to forge his own path to inspire people, and this song and this video is his way of honoring his Uncles mission and inspiring others to DO more.

Of course it’s up to the person to internalize the DO means to them … daven more, learn more, give more tzedakah, but no one said this video is the main thing, so why the musser?

  • To #8

I totally agree the real main thing on the day of the Yartzeit is not singing a song rather to learn with Hasmada & Skida as well as donating as much as 1 possibly can to feed the needy, hungry & destitute, especially in EH”K (Eretz HaKodesh) & yes Collel Chabad is an amazing org 2 donate to, Benny, plz realize that this is the Real Main Thing, your song is nice & good, but the above is what really bring Aliyahs HaNeshama, not the song, ty
