In this talk given at an event celebrating the 110 years since the Rebbe’s birth and the 30th cycle of the daily learning of Rambam in S. Paulo Brazil, Rabbi Avrohom Shemtov, senior Shliach of the Rebbe, shares the fascinating story of his involvement in a particular operation to release a large number of Jews from Soviet Russia.
He tells the inside story of what transpired behind the walls of the Oval Office, ultimately resulting in the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s message giving President Ronald Regan the strength to demand the actual release of Jews from the Soviet Union, as opposed to just relying on Soviet promises that it would eventually be done.
pay beis rivkah teachers!
Perhaps, just perhaps,
Rabbi Shemtov should concern himself first and foremost with the teachers he has working for him in beis rivkah who go unpaid for months on end, our very own teachers, who have to put bread on the table.
How about the teachers, principals who have dedicated themselves to the school for many years, any appreciation? A raise?
Perhaps this comes before visiting the white house every other week as well as flying down mashpiim to farbreng, (which is very nice if would pay his teachers first) for yoma depagras. Especially when those communities have their own mashpiim who can farbreng.
I dont want to say iker choser min hasefer, but then, what is it?
These are our teachers our families, who are teaching our children.
Vhamase hu hoikar!

And perhaps, just perhaps, that´s exactly what rabbi Shemtov (70+ ka¨h) does every single day, tries to raise millions, yes millions of dollars a year to run this mosad which the Rebbe entrusted in him, amongst all other responsibilities that the Rebbe gave him.
Are the people in CH grateful? Do you have an idea what it means to have to fundraise $2.000.000, $1.000, $100?
Do the rich people in CH give beharchavah to THIR OWN school?
Perhaps, just perhaps, rabbi Shemtov might be from the last people that do not have a minute for themselves and nightly looses sleep over YOUR kids education..
Perhaps.

I am a Lubavitcher living in Brasil and I know that rabbi Shemtov used his visit to Brasil to FUNDRAISE for Bais Rivkah.
Shame on you to talk like that about a man the Rebbe entrusted so much in.
Rabbi Shemtov, may you have long happy healthy years and may we be able to learn from your living example.
