I don’t know why the Lubavitch world has problems with them. They are good Jews, and they have joy in their avodas Hashem. What’s bad about that? I think it’s time for the world to get over it, calling it Reform and hippy. No matter what you say, they are still a shul, that is frum and Lubavitch, and nothing can stop them, even a boycott. Let them live their lives, and if you don’t want the happy life they’ve all chosen, bug off their lives and live yours. I’m so tired of these “Let’s bash CAY” article, Op-Eds, videos, etc. While I don’t think this video was taken, or posted, to portray them badly, the comments still find things to judge about. You can go to your boring shuls, while they have their chayus and simcha in their shuls.

secondly – you should look into all the facts about carlebach before you bash it. you may not agree with all of his ways however he left chabad because he was pushed out by many heiligeh chassidim who didnt like the fact that he was so close to the rebbe and that the rebbe gave him so much tlc. he never traveled without learning the sicha of the rebbe and loved the rebbe very much.

Given the absence of those two assumptions, it is reasonable to say that these young people are doing a beautiful thing.
The question that remains is, how did our moisdois chinch and our mashpi’im fail them and the rebbe so pathetically?!?!?!
And I hope that someone is asking the question of what it will take to show these lively young folks the completeness and beauty and indispensability and pertinence of the rebbe’s derech and chassidus.

Campus shliach
People keep writing that this is not a campus shabbaton, but I want to point out something very important. Many become BT, but don’t fully do ischapcha. That is they don’t fully turn over their life in a way into that of a Chosid, they retain reshimos of their “former life”.
Thats a bigger issue….there is not a great system to educate the ballei tshuvah in todays time. Either the BT yeshivas are at capacity, or lack the services needed to help BTs take the next step. How many are taking on so many more mitzvos at a chabad on campus, but how many are in yeshivos, between all the BT yeshivos(Mayanaot, Morristown, Hadar Hatorah, Seagate, Miami, Kfar Chabad) Maybe 150!!!
The BT is not often given the opportunity to grow out of the chabad on campus mentality. How many of them are at CAY. It may not be a bad thing just an example of the lack of spiritual maturity in our BTs and the lack of Mashpiam to cultivate them

I believe it may be you who is insane, because that’s not a mixed shul. Also, no women have read the Torah there, so I don’t know why you made that up.
To people saying it’s mixed because it’s a girl holding it:
There is no mention in halacha that men and women must be separated by a mechitza during Havdala. I believe that is the Rabbi, Chezzy, of the shul’s wife or sister. Nothing wrong there. Grow up, it’s not mixed or Reform.
the real shlomo.......
The real Shlomo Carlebach that they are emulating?! if you can handle the gut wrenching truth, click here. ..
Some quotes: In 1989 feminist group Women of the Wall defied the Orthodox Jewish establishment and read from their own Torah scroll at the Western Wall in Jerusalem. Shlomo Carlebach, steeped in Hasidic tradition but committed to the spiritual rights of women, was the only male rabbi present.
Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb, a pioneer Jewish feminist who was at that ALEPH Kallah, says that she “first became aware of his glorification at the gathering, when it was announced that this [memorial] was going to happen.” Right after the announcement, three or four people “jumped me”, she says, and told their stories: “’Shlomo molested me, Shlomo was abusive to me,’” is how she summarizes their words.

#34 i bet you are over 60 and probably never go to shul yourself. Anyone wanna take bets that I am right? You and your ilk are the reason this shul was founded. You think every rebellious teen is on drugs when all they are is bored and disillusioned with C”H’s uptight close mindedness. I daven at a shul just like CAY and I’m proud. They have chasidus every Shabbos morning a daily minyan, sing Carlbach songs and it is awesome. Keep up the good work CAY and nevermind the haters. They need to take some laxatives cause they seem really constipated to me.
to #31 i coulldn-t agree more!
i couldn’t agree more. after years of “davending” i.e. saying exactly the same words three times a day, every day for years, i must admit that even though i davend every word i havent felt anything for davending in a long time. its just go to shul, say the words, leave. day in and day out. finally here come some people who are doing their very best to actually internalize the beauty of the tefillah. they sing and dance and serve hashem not out of habit, but out of love! what could be better than that? i find that people in chabad think their way is the only way to serve hashem. that’s ridiculous. its no one’s place to judge anyone, because you don’t know what level of yiddishkeit theyre holding and all of the personal challenges they face. for you, the typical lubavitcher, maybe this is not the right place for you and thats fine. maybe its not even the right place for me, ill have to talk to my mashpia, but there are people out there serving hashem with love and joy, who actually look forward to going to shul and davending, not socializing or talking, wow! KOL HAKAVOD!!!! clearly there is a need for this type of shul as there are so many people attending it weekly. i’m glad these young people have a place where they feel welcome first of all, and secondly where they develop a true love for hashem and judaism! im very tempted to attend that shul and i think i will. good for you and keep up the good work.
YO
SSSEEEEFFFFIIIIRRRRRAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
U GOYIM STOP WORRIENG ABOUT CARLBACK B4 YOUR FRUM

Please be aware that singing Carlebach’s music does not mean accepting his ways.
A prominent shaliach I know really enjoys Carlebach’s music, but uses a very uncomplimentary term to describe the man himself. Others I know who enjoy singing and even playing his music lead completely Chassidish lives, and some are too young to know or care what the meshuggener did in his lifetime. Even Avraham Fried has sung Carlebach on stage if not on albums.

You are so wrong. I’m not over 60, I go to Shul every Shabbos & Yom Tov. I actually like davenning in Shul! If you can get me your info I’ll be happy to identify myself.
So…how much do you owe me? My Pesach expenses were huge, so make it a big check!
PS What do you have against seniors? Hippes from the 60’s must be into their 60’s by now! Some are still living like hippies while most grew up.
WOW
WOW, are all these Anti CAY comments from Crown Heights or New Square?!
Inside CAY info....LOOK here #34!
To #34, a lot of married couples come there to hear Havdalah
the men on one side and the women on the other. I’m sure they go
home together after and he “rolls up his sleeves” and helps his
wife like a bubaleh! And since when does an inspirational
havdalah have to include weed. You see half a picture and assume
the rest. The people that go to CAY are those that would like to
be inspired by DAVENING instead of running in to some CH shul,
mummbling the words as fast as they can and leave. They finish
davening all the time much later than other shuls because they
truelly take their time and put their heart & soul into
their prayer.I go every Friday night and no one mingles inside
the shul and the mingling outside is as much as outside of any
other CH/770 shul a “good shabbos” and go home.
mendoza
BTW ALL THOSE WHO ARE POSTING THERE NASTY COMMENTS ,,,WELL YR KIDS COME TO CAY . BECUSE YOU DONT KNOW THE FIRST THING ABOUT
HOW TO TALK TO YR KIDS OR TO ANY BODY ELSE ,
SO TO ALL YOU BASHERS ..WE ENJOY HAVING YR KIDS IN OUR SHULL,
BUT PLEASE DONT COME , BECUSE THERE IS NO MINGELING & YOU CANT HEAR THE WOMAN SINGING,, AND U WILL BE DISAPPOINTED YOU WONT HAVE WHAT TO WRITE NEXT WEEK ,
A fellow Crown Heightser
CAY is a beautiful community which does beautiful things, and makes yiddishkeit a beautiful experience for many who have not found it so in 770 and all the other “Lubavitcher” shuls in CH.
To all the bashers: If you really believe that your own brand of chabad has “everything” and has nothing to gain, learn or be enhanced by from others, then why are so many of your own children abandoning it? Obviously you’re doing something wrong. So instead of ranting against those who are doing something right, get your own act together, and then perhaps you won’t be so bitter and angry anymore. Who knows, you might even smile a little more to your children and feel a little better about yourselves.

Stop the hate.
To #17:

Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb, a pioneer Jewish feminist who was at that ALEPH Kallah, says that she “first became aware of his glorification at the gathering, when it was announced that this [memorial] was going to happen.” Right after the announcement, three or four people “jumped me”, she says, and told their stories: “’Shlomo molested me, Shlomo was abusive to me,’” is how she summarizes their words.
long time ch-er!
so tired of all the obnoxious comments against cay.
like all you high seaters are any better in your noble shuls.
most of the “other” shuls are COLD, and UNWELCOMING!
I can think of many – E SHTEEBLE stands out.
SOmeone like #16 OY REBBE would make many puke. What’s the OY about?
Most naysayers here sounds like rotten apples, I’d rather mingle with CAY folks or the like than be anywhere near the other OPTIONS.
Time to take your head outta the sand.
CH.info thanks for posting this cool video!
GREAT KIDDISH HASHEM
Would you rather see the lost young go to the subway on shabbos .
Kol Hakovod , Your great kiruv is on the mark keep it up
I was at Mayanot in Yerusholaim for yom tov , see how many lost children are brought back to yiddishkeit with the simcha and joy of Ahavas Yisroel
I know of many teens who are lost , who have no place to go for Kiruv . this place is blessed with the great team of the Rebbe’s
shluchim for Here in CH, we in CH also need a Shliach to bring our children closer

No Carlebach Fan

#34 I didn’t actually bet first of all. The bet was not aimed at you but to other members posting. And oh I’m sorry are you 59? =/ cause you sound like you have an 90 year old attitude with arthritis.
