Video: Tackling Controversial Issues
Torah Café
Join Rabbi Nissan Mangel, Rabbi Yitzchak Schochet, Mrs. Rivka Slonim and moderator, Mrs. Molly Resnik as they tackle perplexing and enlightening questions on topics ranging from the Holocaust to dinosaurs. This Crossfire discussion puts the experts on the hot seat and allows for the audience to really get their questions answered. It’s a not-to-be-missed event!
Molly is amazing
Love the way she talks and speaks wish we had more people like molly resnick
Reb Rivka Slonim is awesome
I have never met anyone as smart and knowledgeable as Rebbitzen Rivka Slonim. If she were a man, she would be our greatest Rosh-Yeshiva or Mashpia. The men simply don’t come close to her caliber.
I don’t understand why Yitzckak Schochet shies away from describing himself as a Lubavitcher. It is becoming unnerving!

I have the same feelings as you express about Mrs. Slonim.
Her clarity, her brilliance and thoughtfulness, is a breath of fresh air.
I myself am not religious at all, (hence my Saturday [shabbat} message) however I have felt a nudge of love and yearn as I hear her talk. Perhaps if I would of known her, I would have warmer feelings towards god and religion,
Best of luck Mrs. Slonim
A SHOCHET FAN
What does Yitzchak Schochet speaking at the JLO conference have to do with shying away from being Lubavitch? Oh wait. It is just you with your own agenda. Let’s see. He’s on a panel with famous Chabad speakers (Mangel, Slonim) which means he is held in equal regard. You gotta get over your jealousy man. And seeing the time of your listing, you are not in the USA, probably another UK rabbi with beef. Deal with it.
REALITY CHECK NO. 2

obsessed man on all the sites. Trolling Shochet cause you have an issue with him?
Not sure what your comment has to do with this video. Where is he hiding being Chabad when sitting on a platform with shpitz chabad at a chabad conference? Get over your jealousy. Celebrate his success. Seriously.
Line Up
What a lineup. Slonim is superb. Mangel is magnificent. Schochet is the new star in Chabad. And Molly is one of a kind. I love her!
regarding dinasauors
a.The term dinosaur was coined in 1840 so therefore there were no dinasaurs before 1840!
b. A dinosaur head has never been found in the world. Nor a complete skeleton!!!
Chabad
I like! Great debate especially the shochet mangel showdown. I’m going with shochet on that one. He makes the better argument.
Great Questions!
This was a very interesting discussion with very knowledgeable panelists.
Thank you.
Nice
Where did this take place? Was it recent? Why didn’t I know about it? I have some questions of my own. A very informed and impressive panel if ever I heard one.
SHOCHET AND SECULAR EDUCATION
I’m the one who questioned Shochet’s credentials to be a chief rabbi on another post. I questioned his academic ability and his secular education. After listening to this I have no questions. It’s a shame he withdrew his candidacy.
moshe your brother in law
Mrs. Slonim you were incredible
If I remember correctly you are the oldest daughter of Rabbi Nochum Sternberg
I was very inspired with not only what you said but how you said it, your choice of words are above and beyond the norm in chabad,
Many shall learn from you. As Rashi’s daughters they put on teffilin, vi”dal

very nice
Shochet and Slonim were brilliant!
R’ Mangel was wrong about the Shabbos question. Also, he is the wrong man for this style forum as he could not condense his answers. I’ve heard him solo and he is great but not in this video.
Derech Eretz
It was the ultimate chutzpah when young Shochet publicly argues with Rabbi Mangel.
This lack of respect and basic derech eretz made me lose all respect for Shochet. It was disgraceful behavior in a public forum. We all know how the young ones believe they know all the answers – but one day they mature and as they grow up they get wiser.
Hopefully he will mature and grow up and come to realize that the white bearded people are to be listened to, not contradicted or argued with. A public apology is due!
Rov vs pulpit rabbi
Rabbi Mangel is a Rov.
Schochet is a “pulpit rabbi”.
A Rov is qualified to issue halachic rulings. A pulpit rabbi is good at giving sermons and media-public statements. He may “sound” good externally but lacks in authoritative substance.
When there is a question of halacha, I defer to the Rov and so should the pulpit rabbi in the blue shirt (what happened to the chassidic white shirt?).

Following your logic, I guess you would agree that when Shochet and Boteach are on the same panel of speakers it means they are held in equal regard…
In a way, maybe they are.
What-s with the blue shirt?
Ironic when the moderator presented the question: “What’s with the uniform?”, I watch Schochet squirm in his non-traditional blue shirt and tie.
It is nice to see Rabbi Mangel wearing the “uniform” including his hat which is seen resting on the table next to him. (I can’t say the same about Schochet).
Dinosaurs also had miniature variety
Although many dinosaurs were large, even huge, I would like to point out that there were also a variety of miniature dinosaurs – yet all became extinct.
The smallest known dinosaurs known were about the size of a pigeon! This variety was called theropods closely related to birds. Anchiornis and Epidexipteryx both had a total skeletal length of under 35 centimeters (1.1 ft). Anchiornis is currently the smallest dinosaur described from an adult specimen, with an estimated weight of 110 grams. The smallest herbivorous dinosaurs included Microceratus and Wannanosaurus, at about 60 cm (2 ft) long each.
Therefore, it is simply ludicrous to suggest, as Schochet tried in a daffy manner, that the “taninim ha’gedolim” refer to dinosaurs. Likewise, to say that they could not find enough food to sustain themselves due to their size is a fallacy caused by the stereotype that all dinosaurs were huge.
It is a talent to sound intelligent while saying absolute foolishness.
Comment to #6 New star
There are falling stars, also known as shooting stars, and Schochet is both the new falling star who shoots before thinking.
Apple fell far from the tree
I have known Rabbi Immanuel Schochet shlita for decades. I have never seen him wearing a shirt which was not white. He is a true chosid, a tremendous talmid chochom, a wise person and a ba’al middos. This apple of his must have fallen very very far away from the tree.
