Jnet Pairs Hundreds for One-on-One Torah Learning

Each week, more than 600 people across the world enjoy a shiur over the phone with a specially selected chavrusa. While the matches are made based on study preferences, the participants often form close friendships. says Abe, a participant from Charlotte, NC, “My Chavrusa is warm, knowledgeable and has a heart of gold. Each phone call with him is an experience for itself.”

JNet, a project of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch, was founded in 2005 to enable people to study Torah in a convenient, personal manner. JNet members are able to pick the time and topic of their classes, and are matched up with volunteers they are able to understand and connect with.

“Thanks to our 1,850 volunteers, we have been able to setup more than 2,300 weekly chavrusas since we started.” says managing director Yehuda Dukes. More than 28,500 shiurim have been delivered over the phone last year alone and more than 700 people were set up.

“We need new volunteers to help even more individuals learn and connect to their Jewish heritage,” says Dukes. “Each volunteer makes a tremendous difference.”

JNet is slated to run a phone-a-thon this coming week, enabling community members to join the growing phenomenon, and become part of this incredible project.

so that makes 250.600 yidin that are part of the JLI shiurim? or is the 600 part of the 250.000?

  • I think

600 are active weekly chevrusas (which means 600 teachers and 600 students) learning every week.

On top of that there is turnover and many more go through it.

Instead of being sarcastic about the number sign up at http://www.jnet.org and make the number 601!
