    She translates to deaf people – I am so glad there are more educated people in Chabad (which hopefully will enlighten ignorant people). BTW – there are also deaf people in Chabad and among mekurovim. Let’s keep this in mind for the Chabad House events.

    The speech was a great Kiddush Hashem and Lubavitch (besides that there could have been a polite disclaimer with regard to the great respect directed to Michael Kirby…). I note the mentioning of the Smicha degree…As you mention you should continue to go maychayil el choyil!

Surely not the Lubavitcher Rebbe who was AGAINST secular education in general and specifically against college – he certainly would not be shepping big time nachus from such a “milestone”. Maybe you mean another Rebbe – there are many chassidic/litvish rebbes. Please answer.

    while all of us in the family of lubavitch are proud of nosson for his achievements and speach, it is important to be honest.
    this so called positive comenting is just being dishonest.
    although the rebbe did allow in exceptional cases for some to attend college, the rebbe’s preffered option was that children have no secular education (‘ignorant’ of some things in the language of soem of those commenting here) and definitely against college.
    I am sure nosson consulted with his mashpi’im who advised him his situation is an exception but I would not be so sure the rebbe has nachas from so many who who attend college these days.
    so it is definitely correct to question whether the rebbe would have nachas from a valedictorian in a university. it goes against a very big part of what the rebbe worked hard to teach us chasidim.

    To #32 – I guess you can’t handle the truth that #31 wrote, which is why you tell him/her to shut up and keep negative comments to self. Guess what, keeping quiet does not alter reality. The truth must be said – loud and clear: Maybe some other rebbe is shepping big time nachas but the Lubavitcher Rebbe gets his nachas from other venues.

    There is a difference between a bochur going to a real college with campus life, etc., and a married man going to a technical college that focuses exclusively on classes.

    Remember that the Rebbe himself didn’t go to college until after he was married. (And after he “filled his stomach with bread and meat” as the Rambam puts it; so merely being married is not really enough. But at least being married is one tzad that applies here.)
