Video: ‘Biblical Women’ on Jewish.TV
A new series of classes on Jewish.TV, taught by Chabad.org editor, Chana Weisberg, explore the life of the great women of the Torah. The first class debuts today at 8pm Eastern.
Fans of Jewish.TV’s regular line-up of Torah classes are eagerly anticipating the debut of a new series of courses taught by Chabad.org’s own Chana Weisberg. The first installment of the ‘Biblical Women’ series is entitled ‘Miriam: Mother of Rebellion“ and runs for five weeks, on Thursdays, starting today (July 14) at 8pm Eastern.
The format for each half-hour long class revolves around reading and discussing the original story of Miriam from the actual verses in Chumash. Further readings then explore how the story is explained in various sources in Talmud, Midrash and the classic commentaries such as Rashi.
Commenting on the format of the classes, Weisberg said, ”What makes this class so engaging are the texts. This is not a lecture about one person’s opinion. We are actually reading the Chumash and then going into all the different opinions and commentaries and getting a full picture of who Miriam was the way our Sages actually taught us.“
In addition to the primary texts, each lesson also provides related articles and videos on Chabad.org for further study as well as ”Ideas for Discussion“ in which on-line viewers can recap the ideas presented.
The classes take place at Weisberg’s home in Toronto with a group of women who gathered especially to take part in the launch of this new online class.
”The interactive element is important,“ says Weisberg. ”I think that the viewers at home will sort of imagine themselves sitting around the table with all of us as we learn about Miriam.”
Future installments of the series are planned which will highlight the lives of other Biblical women such as Chavah, Sarah, Rivkah, and Dinah.
let-s learn the difficult stories
i’d love to hear classes specifically on difficult stories: tamar, dina, delilah and shimshon, batsheva and dovid hamelech etc etc….
in school (for me) these were totally ignored, …as if that made the questions go away.. and no, my school never taught me how to find my own answers, sadly.
