Video: Zand, Hecht and Matisyahu at Shabbaton

Thousands of students who attend Chabad on campus in their selective cities joined their local Rabbis for a inspirational and uplifiting weekend in Crown Heights. Moshe Hecht, Nosson Zand, and Matisyahu played Motzai Shabbos in Beis Rivkah for these students of Chabad on Campus. For many it was the first time they went to a concert with a michitza down the middle of the room!

  • Silly Question

    To 1:

When reaching out to non-frum students who are on campus you need to speak to them on their level. A shabbos full of spirituality and soul food is fine, but that alone will not speak to them nor draw them to attend the shabbaton, hence the need to add fun to the mix, and this is fine kosher fun!

Clear enough to you? Does it answer your honest question?

  • Impressed

We had two students from UCF stay by us and they were blown away by the whole shabbos experience! I think it is amazing for them to have a great time while in a religious neighborhood. Now they have only good feeling towards frum people and yiddishkeit. Good job Chabad on Campus!

  • #2,good intentions,but

we don’t bring yiddishkait DOWN to someone’s level chas vshalom and we for sure don’t pretend that something goyish is yiddish.we raise other’s up to yiddishkait-this has always been the rabaim’s derech.

  • dear #5

i was not insulting the shluchim cv. they do a tremendous job and this one situation is not attributal to them as a whole. however BH my thick head is able to maintain clarity so that i know what is chasidish and what is not when i see it.

  • Don-t confuse students

To #5 Please, Be wise and don’t bring the argument to the personal level by employing insults.
Being a college student in the past, I know from my personal experience that employing Pop culture to get Jewish Students to the Idishkite is confusing and contra-productive. The jewish students on a college campus do not look for another Pop Culture Outlet when they come to CHABAD House on Friday Night. I know it for the fact.
Besides, The Rebbe said many times that the shluchim must bring Jews to The Torah and not Torah to the Jews.
When a college student (who are smart enough to figure out what is white and black) comes to CH looking for the Rebbe and finds “converted Bob Marley” – he might as well go to the night club thinking: “it is all the same”

  • amazing

when they started having Chabad on Campus Shabbatons again in January or Feb. 2005, Motzei Shabbos they had a comedian followed by a band that played Chassidic Songs (not this pop rock)… then it was followed by a wonderful Farbrengen for those that were still around that late… it was an amazing night….
