Video – Shluchim Online School Goes Airborne!
In the few short years since its inception, the Online School has defied one limitation after another: distance, time zones and technology. Recently, they defied another slew of would-be obstacles – altitude, for one – when a teacher gave a class while flying!
The day after Isru Chag, 5th and 6th grade Rebbi, Rabbi Chaim Goldstien, was booked to fly back to NY after spending Pesach in El Paso, TX. Class was scheduled to resume that day, so when his substitute arrangements fell through at the last moment, Rabbi Goldstien decided to take his teaching with him.
Rabbi Goldstien asked permission from the flight attendants and neighboring passengers, and proceeded to give a Pirkei Avos shiur at an altitude of 35,000, laptop on the tray table in front of him. His class included twelve students, hailing from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Vancouver, PA, as well as others on the plane who, as Rabbi Goldstien reported, were “delighted and impressed.”
Equally delighted were the Online School’s staff – Rabbi Moshe Shemtov, director; Mrs. Gitty Rosenfeld, principal; and Rabbi Yossi Goodman, Systems development – at discovering that their fifth grade was airborne. Thanks to their teachers’ dedication, they can now say with surety the Online School provides a Chassidishe Chinuch that knows no limits!
