On 23 Av – August 19, 1976, the Rebbe addressed Israel’s Paralympic Team, over a hundred Israeli soldiers and civilians, most of whom were wounded defending the Jews in the Holy Land.
In his talk, the Rebbe emphatically disapproved af anyone being referred to as ‘handicapped’ or ‘disabled’. Rather, the Rebbe argued, they should be called ‘exceptional,’ for their challenge is proof positive that G-d has endowed them with strengths and abilities beyond the average individual, and the power to achieve what others cannot.
