FAIRFIELD [WTNH] — A ‘Festival of Lights’ marred by ugly disruptions earlier this week went as planned in Fairfield Tuesday night.

Three-men holding Nazi flags, shouted obscenities during Sunday night’s menorah lighting ceremony on the Fairfield Green. Those who witnessed this want to put the ugliness behind them.

On the 5th night of Hanukkah, with police lining the streets, Rabbi Rabbi Sholom Stock lights the menorah in Fairfield.

It was a peaceful ceremony unlike on Sunday at Sherman Green when three masked men wearing all black unfurled large banners with a swastika and other Nazi emblems on them; they stood across the street from the menorah lighting.

“The hooligans that came in and wanted to disturb the ceremony, it was a shock that it was in our town. So I came in to show support and to make sure that it didn’t happen again,” said Sam Shoshan of Fairhaven.

Nearly 100 people showed up from many different faiths, different towns, to support the Jewish community in Fairfield for Tuesday night’s menorah lighting; not only singing traditional Hanukkah songs but the Star Spangled Banner to show solidarity against hate.

“People wanted to show support that they don’t approve of the bigotry and they don’t approve of those who want to stomp out freedom of religion; which is one of the principals that the country is based on,” said Rabbi Stock.

It was actually Rabbi Yosy Stock who lit the menorah not Rabbi Sholom Stock.
Also, Chazzan Avi Schwarzmer led the people in singing, and also in the brochos for lighting the menorah and also with Chanukah songs.
There was B”H over 100+ people, and even a few non-jews as well!
This was a TREMENDOUS kiddush shaim shomayim b’rabim, and a kiddush shaim chabad also!!!!
YASHER KOACH Stock & Torenheim families – you guys are the BEST!!!!!
    ALEI V’HATZLACH!!!!!
Hashem should bless you to keep up the good work with health and mazal forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It goes without saying much that the Stocks of CT know how to bring the message of the Rebbe to the entire Fairfield County. With Ahavat yisrael and integrity in everything that Harav Turnheim and the Stock family do.

May the light and mazal of chanukah continually shine upon the Stock & Turnheim families throughout the entire year – for all the mitzvos that you help the yidden of Connecticut do! I cannot say enough words of thanks to these lovely people who constantly give so much for the sake of others – without fanfare and publicity.
May you go from strength to strength in bringing our fellow jews back to thier roots.
    YASHER KOCHACHEM!!!!!
    THIYU BIRUCHIM!

    This was simply beautiful!!!!!!!!!!
The Stock & Turenheim families are our modern-day Maccabees!!! They are also our Kohanecha HaKedoshim!! They do what chassidim of the Rebbe do – they don’t wait for “thank you’s” and publicity – they give first and don’t even think about anything in return.
These are what true chassidim really are!
Derlebn iber a yohr-we should be lighting in the 3rd bais hamikdosh together with moshiach.
Bridgeport & Fairfield County is GEBENCHED because of people like the Stocks and Turenheims

I found this story by “accident”, and I am not at all surprised by this wonderful display of achdus and caring for another that is the very hallmark of the Turinheim and Stock families for over 36 years!
Back in 1978, we were a young family living in Stamford, CT., and Rabbi & Rebbitzen Turinheim Sheyichyu together with thier parents – Rabbi and Rebbitzen Stock OBM reached out to us in ways we would have never imagined – they provided a solid foundation in yiddishkeit – that still lives within everyone who came into contact with them. Even though our family has grown and now have thier own kinderlach Boruch Hashem, we will always be thankful for the Turinheims, Stocks and MISHKAN ISRAEL for everything they DO, {YES, TO THIS VERY DAY!} and have done for the Stamford Jewish community and all of Connecticut.

The idea of singing the national anthem is sheer genius!
This was a wonderful chap to bring out the aspect of chanukah as a time to celebrate religious freedom.
YASHER KOACH! other chabad houses should learn from this.

How could Rabbi Sholom Ber Stock Have Lit The Menorah When You See Him Stnding In The Crowd While The Menorah Was Being Lit?! Rabbi Yosy Stock Deserves The Credit For The Menorah Lighting.
