BROOKLYN, NY [NY1] — Today marks 15 years since a Hasidic teenager was gunned down on the entrance ramp of the Brooklyn Bridge.

On March 1, 1994, 16-year-old Ari Halberstam was one of 15 Yeshiva students heading to Brooklyn when Lebanese national Rashid Baz opened fire on their van.

Halberstam was shot in the head and died five days later.

Baz, pictured right, was convicted of murder and attempted murder and sentenced to 141 years in prison.

The case was originally considered road rage, but in December 2000 it was changed to a terror crime.

“My mission in this world until the day I die will be to fight against terrorists and terrorism that murdered my son,” said Devorah Halberstam, Ari’s mother.

The Jewish Children’s Museum in Brooklyn, which opened in 2005, is dedicated to Ari Halberstam’s memory.
