That is just so cool. Mendy, you did great. A huge kiddush hashem. and I think you’re a great laugh!
I wish we would have known when you were on.

  • a believer

mendy, you were great. but a bit nervous. keep cool, calm and collect.
jay leno today. tomorrow david letterman.

  • CAUTION

The Jay Leno show is not a place for a Chasidishe Yid (especially since he’s not promoting a Jewish cause but rather his own internet show) – I would caution Moisdos, not to introduce this man to our children, by letting him host our rallies – he is not a Dugma Chaya – in my opinion, he is taking the same path as Mattisyahu.

  • SR from CH

who is jay leno? … no no just kidding, wow mendy im so happy for you, congradulations!!! you are doing such a wonderful job! such a huge kiddush hashem!

there will always be critics and people who will be offended and have only negative things to say, no matter what. but at the end of the day you are making thousands if not millions of people laugh, and you give them a glimpse of the character, “chayos”, and beauty of yiddishkeit.

may you continue to do these amazing accomplishments and give the rebbe nachas, i believe this is you’re (extraordinary) shlichus.

all the best, and much hatzlacha!

  • Please end the strike

After that Joke the studio is willing to do anything to end the strike!!!

  • Asher Zellig

wow mendy you did great, just a just seemed a bit nervous (then again who wouldnt be?) wish i wouldve known when you were going on. keep it up!!! saw the article in the Jewish Week also, youre on a role!!!

  • Constructive Criticism

I know you’ll read this Mendy.
When you’re out there, people do NOT know you as Mendy, they think you’re a Rabbi. So please, have that in mind.
(Keep the jokes in line with what a Rabbi would say. Notice how shocked Leno was when you said ‘they watch in their underwear’?)

  • D. Chossid

I have to agree with CAUTION. I too think that the Mendy story may very well have a similar ending as the Matisyahu or Shmuly Boteach stories (which are also still to be ended.)

Are my ears deceiving me, or did Mendy claim he’s a Rabbi?.. a Rabbi for askmoses? I sincerely hope that that was part of the joke!

All that aside, I thought it was pretty funny.

  • SHOCKED

I take offense by all those that are celebrating this as a huge achievement and a Kidush Hashem. This may be an achievement for Mendy Pellen, but for the rest of us Chasidim, this is just another example of how far we have strayed and how our values have deteriorated.

  • Far vos?

since when is Jay leno kosher?

what kind of shtus are you bringing our children who come to this site?

  • nechama

People who take offense at other people’s actions that are not directed to them, are on the road for a miserable life.
No, he’s not the example of a chassidishe bochur that we hope for, and there is way too much obsession with Television for Lubavitchers when the Rebbe assured it, but why are you taking offense?

  • Just relax!

People chill!!! if you don’t like it,,,don’t watch it…if you don’t want your children watching it…then don’t let them….everyone can do whatever they want in this world!!!

  • Mendy is not your childs totty

Mendy never said he was a role model for your children. Stop imposing roles on other people. Raise your own children lazy parents. If you don’t like him, don’t let your children watch. And stop making babies because your are obviously a little unrealistic to expect some stranger comedian to raise them for you.

  • this is a disgrace

this thing is an embarassment to chabad.
rabbi….. people watching in their underware?
    rabbi online?
everything about this video is a chilul hashem!

  • To Nechama

Nobody takes offence to what Mendy Pellin, or Mattisyahu for that matter, chose as their profession; that is their personal nesoyon.

The issue at hand is what our attitude as a “Chasidishe Community” should be towards such achievements. To me, this represents the greatest challenge facing our community and Lubavitch in general – to put it in one word, SECULARISM. What are our goals and who are our heroes? “Making it” on a TV show or teaching Torah? A rock star with a fedora, or a Talmid Chochom/ Mashpia? When our mosdos (camps, rallies, shows, charity events) promote the former rather than the latter – then we have a problem. When our children’s rallies go from being chaired by Rabbi JJ Hecht, to someone who shows up on television (two months later) talking about people surfing the net in their underwear – then we have a problem.

  • Can-t fool children!

    To Just relax!

It’s not so simple as saying,
    “just don’t let your children
watch it.” If someone is a Rabbi
or even looks like one, he is a ROLE MODEL! So, if a child finds out that his/her role model was a guest on a show known for “underwear” talk, this child may get the idea that,“well, if he can do it, so can I!!!”

Rabbi Meir Kahane, H’YD, said, “you can’t fool children. Children are brilliant….”

  • why was it on here?

I don’t think people are as much upset about mendy as they about this video being put up on ch.info. this is a public site and kids do check it.

    Kudos — good job

Chabad has ALWAYS been about doing something on the edge to bring people closer.

Mendy being on Jay Leno– shows the secular jews you can be A Rabbi, A Lubavitcher and be ”cool“ or ”funny“

I don’t let my kids watch TV —

I am glad that Mendy, Matisyahu and the others got the word ”Chabad” out there just a bit more

Learn some Chasidus — this is the wellsprings spreading out

  • A Lubavitcher

To all the people worried about ”A RABBI“ being a role model, etc.

You should all ask yourselves if you are a role model when you walk down the street on Shabbos and don’t say Good Shabbos, when you argue with each other, when a commmunity is so divided by its ”leaders” that they resort to secular courts to settle disputes….

We have much bigger problems to address than worrying about Mendy being on late nite TV

  • Yossel

The Rebbe made it very clear that every vehicle that was created is to be utilized for Torah. Mendy brought Chabad onto the Leno show. This does not mean that every Lubavitcher should run out to watch Leno, just as the work he does with people asking questions on the internet does not mean that people should stop going to Shiyurim. Leno has a show that many watch and Mendy brought a message by being there, to show that Chabad is normal and that rabbis are normal.

  • Can-t Fool children

    To “A Lubavitcher wrote:”

I’ts bad enough that some “role models”
make a chillul Hashem with their
    machlokes, secular courts, Good Shabbos
snubs, etc. But, is anyone saying this is proper behavior?

However, to give the impression that some bathroom T.V. show is okay – well, that’s a big problem. The T.V, like internet, can be a big taaveh, and , to legitimize this can lead many off the deep end(i.e, off the derech – not because they see the derech wrong, but the taaveh got to them) CH”V!!!
