8:00pm: Unaffordable Housing in Crown Heights

This week’s edition of MyLife: Chassidus Applied with Rabbi Simon Jacobson, Episode 51, will air tonight, Sunday, here on CrownHeights.info, beginning at 8:00pm. This week Rabbi Jacobson will address the topics: Mental Illness [Pt. 2], Is There Any Virtue to Madness? Unaffordable Housing in Crown Heights, Alternatives to Yelling [Pt. 2], Shabbos Peace With Young Children.

“What would the Rebbe say about the prohibitive home prices in Crown Heights?” “What is the role of shtus d’kedusha – holy madness – in Yiddishkeit and Chassidism? What role does madness play in Jewish observance?

These and other questions will be addressed in this week’s 51st episode of MyLife: Chassidus Applied. Rabbi Jacobson will also continue elucidating on the topic of mental illness and its related stigma. How should we deal with it especially in regard to shidduchim? Is it appropriate to judge a person based on their family’s history of mental illness? Is there an obligation for shadchanim to share information about someone’s mental health history?

Other topics to be addressed are: With many young children at home, what advice can be given to a mother about enjoying Shabbos when the day is long and she is home alone? Are there alternatives to yelling at our children: “I want to discipline them, but how?”

This hour-long dose of insights is meant to inform, inspire and empower us by applying the teachings of Chassidus to help us face practical and emotional challenges and difficulties in our personal lives and relationships. The stakes of not providing answers are even higher.”
