8:00pm: How to Avoid the Hangover

This week’s edition of MyLife: Chassidus Applied with Rabbi Simon Jacobson, Episode 39, will air tonight, Sunday, here on CrownHeights.info beginning at 8:00pm. This week, in a special post-holiday edition, Rabbi Jacobson will address the topic: How to avoid the hangover.

Chassidus teaches us how every moment and season in time provides us with invaluable insight into our souls and essential lessons for our personal lives. What possible message does the post-holiday season have for us?

It teaches us how to sustain a high level of energy even after inspiration dissipates and we experience the inevitable “down” that follows every “high.” Now that we have concluded the holidays and are filled to the brim with the energy and inspiration from the “rich” month of Tishrei, how can we move forward with the same level of vitality and fervor?  How can we avoid the “blues” following these extraordinary days and “unpack” the precious bundles we gathered during the holidays? While it is relatively easy to get inspired and make a resolution, maintaining it is far more difficult. What techniques and methods can be employed?

Rabbi Jacobson will explore a fascinating sicha (Shabbos Parshas Lech Lecha 5749) that discusses the radical transition from a holiday-filled Tishrei to an “empty” Cheshvan. Why such an extreme leap and what does it teach us about our life challenges? Accompanied by a wide selection of sources, this episode will offer direction in not only preventing plateauing in the coming year, but finding remedies in dealing with real life issues – boredom and monotony, preventing a marriage from stagnating in auto-pilot mode, freeing ourselves from melancholy and despondence, finding strength in times of uncertainty and facing particular hardships.

Other topics to be addressed in this week’s episode include: Regarding the hype surrounding “The Secret,” what does Chassidus say about “the law of attraction”? Also: Collapsing under family pressure, coping with a meddling in-law, and where is the world heading?

This hour-long dose of insight is meant to inform, inspire and empower us by applying the teachings of Chassidus to help us face practical and emotional challenges and difficulties in our personal lives and relationships. The stakes of not providing answers are even higher.”

At the root of every question and personal challenge tackled by the series is the overarching question: Does Judaism have the answers to my personal dilemmas?
