
Chanukah…South Beach Style
SOUTH BEACH, FL [CHI] — Rabbi Zev Katz and Chabad House on Wheels celebrated their Annual Chanukah Festivities in Miami Beach. Each Chanukah, for the past 6 years, Chabad on Wheels has sponsored a large and growing celebration on Lincoln Road, the center of South Beach.

This year’s 8 days of Chanukah Lighting had an attendance in excess of 3000 people. On Sunday evening, December 9th, over 1500 persons attended the services and lighting of the 6th candle. Potato Latkes, Jelly donuts Menorahs, and candles were given out.
Music was supplied by Dr. Laz and the children were given prizes and allowed to spin the huge Dreidel. Local celebrities, supporters of the Chabad and the Mayor and City Commissioners always participate in the lighting of the Menorah.
The Menorah is lit with oil, is 13 feet tall and is created out of 15,000 ++ seashells. It weighs over 900 pounds. Also a major part of the festivities is the “World’s Largest Spinning Dreidel”. The Dreidel is over 13 feet tall is comprised of over 20,000 +++ sea shells and weighs in excess of 2000 pounds.
The Menorah and Dreidel was created by Roger Abramson. It is the only sculptures on Lincoln Road and will stay up until January 2, 2008. During this period an estimated 75,000 to 100,000 persons will see the Menorah and Dreidel and it is estimated that over 10,000 pictures of families are taken in front of the menorah and Dreidel.
