Over 1000 at Chanukah Celebration in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, FL [CHI] — Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz Director of Chabad Lubavitch of Southwest Florida said that the Chanukah Celebration was a tremendous success and the community was really inspired by the beautiful program.

The grand Chanukah Celebration was a huge success. The Menorah was lit by Dr. Gary Price and Dr. James Rubenstein addressed the crowd and Lee County Commisioner Bob Janes also issued and read a Proclamation in Honor of the event.

Local dignitaries, Honorable State Representative Nick Thompson, The Honorable State Representative Trudi Williams, Honorable County Commissioner Bob Janes, Battalion Chief John Mcmahon (South Trail Fire District) and Sergeant Lee County Sheriff Mark Cohen. Were all present for the Menorah Lighting.

The M.C. for the event was Randy Thomas who is one of the most recognized voices in America. Randy has the distinguished honor as the first woman to announce the biggest and most prestigious award show in the world not once but six times including her most recent return in 2005 for the 77th Annual Academy Awards. In 2006 Randy returned to the Tony Awards in NYC for her sixth consecutive appearance as announcer. The American Film Institute brought Randy back for her fifth time to announce their continuing series of “100 Years…100 Greatest Movies.” Randy can be heard daily on Entertainment Tonight and The Insider television shows from Paramount Television.

Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz Shliach and Director of Chabad Lubavitch of S.W. FL commented that one of the major accomplishments of this year’s event was that the 2 Bochrim Zalmy Wolf and Dany Gerber from the Rabbi Shai Amar of Golden Beach Smicha Program helped over 100 Jews put on Teffilin and at least 10 Karkafatas it was a true Kidush Hashem.

Local Shluchim Rabbi and Mrs. Fishel Zaklos from Naples, Rabbi and Mrs. Mendy Greenberg from Bonita, Rabbi and Mrs. Yossi Labkowski from Cape Coral and Rabbi and Mrs. Simon Jacobson from Charlotte County were also at the Event.

Performer, Eduardo, treated Jews and Non-Jews alike to a live concert. There was singing, dancing, and Chanukah food for everyone.

There were lots of Holiday Treats such as Chocolate Chanukah Gelt, Jelly and Custard Doughnuts, Hot Latkes and Drinks.

Maimonidees Day School Headed by Shlucha Nechamie Minkowicz, with Teachers Shlucha Shaina Jacobson, Shlucha Luba Greenberg and Shlucha Rivky Labkowsky preformed Chanukah Songs for the entire community and they were very inspiring.

There was a special Arts and Crafts are for the Children.
