MOSCOW, Russia — The Jewish Charity Center 'Shaarei Tsedek' held its grand opening. Located in the Marina Roscha neighborhood, not far from the Moscow Jewish Community Center, this new thirteen million dollar institution is the largest Jewish Charity center in Russia.

The new building will serve over 1500 elderly hot meals a day in addition to another 1,000 meals that will be delivered by refrigerated trucks to homebound elderly from its kitchen. The center is also a fully equipped day medical clinic serving over 7,000 patients a month with over thirty doctors on staff. It also is a day center of activities for elderly.

MOSCOW, Russia — The Jewish Charity Center ‘Shaarei Tsedek’ held its grand opening. Located in the Marina Roscha neighborhood, not far from the Moscow Jewish Community Center, this new thirteen million dollar institution is the largest Jewish Charity center in Russia.

The new building will serve over 1500 elderly hot meals a day in addition to another 1,000 meals that will be delivered by refrigerated trucks to homebound elderly from its kitchen. Boruch Gorin, the Head of Public Relations for the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia, gave the opening speech, followed by Chief Rabbi of Russia, Rabbi Berel Lazar. Both thanked the sponsors who made this project a reality – those who donated resources to make this happen, and the staff who have dedicated their efforts to running the institution, and to Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, who allocated to the Jewish community the plot of land where this building now stands.

The powerful mayor of Moscow, Yuri Luzhkov also attended.

“The beauty of this building is not only in its walls, but in the activities that are to be carried out here,” noted Mayor Luzhkov to the crowd, who went on to underline the importance of the Jewish community in achieving inter-religious and inter-ethnic accord in Russia.

Alexander Boroda, Executive vice Chairman of FJC Russia, gave an overview how the ‘Shaarei Tsedek’ Center will operate and how its services will be delivered, the sponsors of this project were called on stage.

Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar was joined by Mayor Yuri Luzhkov in cutting the ribbon to inaugurate this building, while Iosif Kobzon and Mikhail Bezelyanskiy – the key sponsor for the new Medical Center – cut the ribbon to open the Medical Center. Participants had the opportunity to tour the building and learn about its new capabilities and services, after which they were treated to a festive buffet and a performance of guitar music.

Renowned singer Iosef Kobzon, who is also the Chairman of the Public Council for the FJC Russia, presented each a beautiful architectural plan for this new building.
