KALININGRAD, Russia –- The Jewish New Year – Rosh Hashanah – was met in Kaliningrad by over 250 people attending a communal gathering. Organized by the Jewish community of Kaliningrad, the event took place at a local café.

Before lighting the candles, Rabbi David Shvedik spoke to participants about this holiday, while violinist Zinoviy Razu played Jewish melodies. A special children’s program was organized for this occasion, involving clowns, contests, games, and numerous holiday dishes.

On the second day of Rosh Hashanah, many youngsters and other community members flocked to the Synagogue to hear the first sounding of the Shofar. That evening, prayers and a festive meal took place at the home of Rabbi Shvedik, involving many community members who have already come to live according to Torah and the commandments.

The Jewish community of Kaliningrad, a member of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia, is grateful to L.Z. Plitman and I.V. Zilberman for their support in making this celebration possible.
