New Book Aims to Get Families Ready for Fast-Approaching High Holidays
BROOKLYN, NY — A new book published this month aims to educate children and their parents about the High Holidays. Released by the Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Shluchim Office, which provides resources to Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries, High Holidays for Children contains illustrations, explanative text and a “Words to Know” feature that highlights key concepts and vocabulary words.
The 48-page full-color booklet teaches about the holidays of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot, and was distributed to Hebrew Schools across the country.
With the High Holidays beginning so soon after classes – in many cases just one week – creators of the book said more home-based exploration is necessary.
“There is not enough time to teach about Rosh Hashanah before the High Holidays,” says Devora Krasnianski, project director for the Hebrew School division of the Shluchim Office, which published the book. “Our goal is that the parents could learn with their children, and then, themselves get a greater knowledge about the holidays.”
