Moscow, Russia — The ‘Gan Israel’ Camp near Moscow has wrapped up, putting an end to the 2007 season. Over 110 youth and 20 counselors involved in this last camp bid farewell and looked forward to the upcoming school year. This year, several retreats were held this year in order to give the opportunity to attend camp from over 20 surrounding cities.

The campers enjoyed such activities as swimming, bike riding, playing soccer, table tennis and computer games. Each retreat also focused on a different aspect of Jewish life, such as the countries where Jews live and traditional Jewish professions.

Other highlights included a seminar sponsored by the ‘Magen League’ on retaining one’s culture and resisting assimilation, readings from books published by the ‘Tzivos Hashem’ Organization on the Jewish calendar, holidays and Shabbat traditions. Towards the end, campers held an auction where they were able to spend coupons, earned through participation in various events, on various prizes.

This and dozens of other ‘Gan Israel’ Camps held across the Former Soviet Union were made possible through sponsorship from the Ohr Avner educational network, headed by world-renowned philanthropists Lev and Olga Leviev.
