Volgograd Children Get Closer to Jewish Roots
Volgograd, Russia –- The summer camp season is well underway for Jewish children residing in the Volgograd Region. It has already been one week since the boys and girls headed to the site, located at a resort in the Leninsky District of Volgograd Region. Here, there enjoy top-notch security, comfortable living conditions, two pools, clean air, a nearby forest and spring.
This is the eighth year that the ‘Gan Israel’ camp has been offered to local youngsters. While this retreat provides a supplemental education to children attending the Ohr Avner Chabad Day School, it is also helping children less familiar with their heritage to get in touch with their roots and introduces them to a Jewish lifestyle. This is also a perfect occasion for local Jewish university students to get practical experience as camp counselors.
Organized by the Volgograd Jewish Community Center, together with the Jewish community of Volgograd, this opportunity was made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of Lev Leviev, President of the Ohr Avner Foundation, and the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS.
