Dozens of Jewish Communities Unite for Rostov Camp
Rostov-On-Don, Russia –- After wrapping up the boys’ season, over 200 Jewish girls have embarked on two weeks of entertainment and education at the ‘Avichai’ camp gan israel near Rostov-on-Don. Apart from local kids, participants come from right across Russia – from larger communities such as S. Petersburg, Orenburg, Kostroma, Kursk, Perm, and Bryansk to dozens of smaller communities.
With the camp site located in a park along the Don River, campers learn about their heritage and Jewish life while also engaging in a multitude of entertaining activities such as horseback riding, visits to theme park and cinemas, and a tour of the Jewish sites of Rostov-on-Don. Everyone attending the ‘Avichai’ camp Gan Israel this summer receives a great souvenir of their experience – a CD archive containing hundreds of photos of their favorite events and new friends.
And what fun would it be without the counselors, among whom were students from top-notch yeshivas and machons, youth from the local Jewish community, and participants in the ‘STARS’ educational program. These mentors were able to offer appropriate guidance to the campers thanks to preparatory seminars and methodological work carried out by the ‘Avi Chai’ Foundation.
